Troubleshooting blog emails and comments
This page lists every problem you can meet with the blog's subscribe box, its emails and its comments, each with a fix. Find the message you see, or the thing that is not working.
Problems with opening the blog, searching, reading, sharing and feed readers are on Troubleshooting the blog.
Messages both the subscribe box and the comment form can show
These four messages appear on either form. On the subscribe box they show on the line under the email field. On the comment form they show beside Post comment.
"Enter a valid email address."
- Where you see it: Under the subscribe box's email field, or beside Post comment with the cursor placed in Email address.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The address is incomplete, has a space inside it, or is far longer than an email address can be.
- How to fix it: Retype the address in full, without spaces, for example
[email protected]. Then press the button again. Nothing was sent or saved by the failed attempt.
"This request came from another website, so it was blocked. Reload the page and try again."
- Where you see it: Under the subscribe box's email field, or beside Post comment.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The form was not sent from a page of the blog itself. This can happen when you read the blog through another site, such as a translated copy of the page.
- How to fix it: Reload the page and try again, as the message says. If it shows again, open blogs.onflowads.com directly in your browser, go to the same page and use the form there. Nothing was sent or saved.
"That did not work just now. Please try again in a moment."
- Where you see it: Under the subscribe box's email field, or beside Post comment.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: A passing fault on the blog's side. Your address or your comment could not be saved this time.
- How to fix it: Wait a moment and press the button again. No email was sent. On the comment form your text stays in the box, so you do not need to retype it.
"That did not work. Please try again in a moment."
- Where you see it: Under the subscribe box's email field, or beside Post comment.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Your request did not reach the blog, or its answer did not come back. The usual causes are a dropped connection or a content blocker.
- How to fix it: Check your connection and press the button again. If it repeats, pause your content blocker for the blog and reload the page.
Subscribing to new posts by email
These problems appear when you type your address into the blog's subscribe box and press Subscribe. The answer always shows on the line under the email field.
There is no subscribe box on the blog
- Where you see it: At the foot of the blog's home page, its list pages and its posts, where the box normally sits.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The blog has switched the box off for now. Readers who already subscribed stay subscribed. If the box is there with the line "Scripts are off in this browser, so the form cannot be sent. The RSS feed carries every new post.", scripts are off in your browser.
- How to fix it: Follow the blog in a feed reader and look again later. If you see the line about scripts, turn scripts on in your browser and reload the page.
"Subscribing is switched off at the moment."
- Where you see it: Under the subscribe box's email field, after pressing Subscribe.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The blog switched subscribing off after your page loaded, so the box was still on your screen.
- How to fix it: Nothing was saved and no email was sent. Try again another day. Until then, a feed reader brings you every new post.
"Too many attempts. Please wait a minute and try again."
- Where you see it: Under the subscribe box's email field, after pressing Subscribe.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Subscribe was pressed too many times in a short while. This request was not taken, but earlier ones were.
- How to fix it: Stop pressing.
- Look for a confirmation email that was already sent, in spam and promotions too, and press its link.
- If there is none, wait, then press Subscribe once.
- If the message shows again, try again later.
"Subscribing is not available right now. Please try again later."
- Where you see it: Under the subscribe box's email field, after pressing Subscribe.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The blog cannot take new subscriptions at this moment. The fault is on the blog's side, not on your device.
- How to fix it: Try again later. Nothing was saved, so you are not subscribed yet and no confirmation email is on its way.
"We could not send the confirmation email just now. Please try again in a moment."
- Where you see it: Under the subscribe box's email field, after pressing Subscribe.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The blog took your address but could not send the confirmation email.
- How to fix it: Press Subscribe again a little later. That sends a fresh confirmation email. Until you press its link you are not subscribed.
"Almost done. Check your inbox and press the link in the email we just sent." but no email arrives
- Where you see it: The green line under the subscribe box's email field, followed by an empty inbox.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The email went to spam or a promotions tab, the address was mistyped, or delivery is slow. If you subscribed and confirmed with this address before, you are still subscribed and no new email is sent.
- How to fix it:
- Search your mailbox for "Confirm your subscription", and check spam and promotions.
- If nothing is there, subscribe again and type the address carefully.
- Press the link in the newest email only. An older link stops working.
The Subscribe button stays on "Sending"
- Where you see it: The subscribe box. The line under the field reads "Sending" and Subscribe cannot be pressed.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Your request is still on its way, usually because the connection is slow. The button comes back as soon as an answer arrives.
- How to fix it: Wait a little. If it never ends, reload the page and press Subscribe once more.
Confirming your blog subscription
You are subscribed only after you press Confirm my subscription in the confirmation email. This is the page an old link opens instead of "You are subscribed".
Signed out — an old confirmation link The page you get when the link you pressed is no longer the current one. 1 The title "This link has expired", with the reason on the line under it. 2 See the latest posts takes you to the blog, where you can subscribe again for a new link.
"This link has expired" after pressing Confirm my subscription
- Where you see it: A blog page opened from the confirmation email. Under the title it says "The confirmation link is an old one. Subscribe again to get a new one."
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: You asked to subscribe again afterwards, which replaced this link. Or you pressed unsubscribe in the same email first, the link lost characters when it was copied, or the address was removed.
- How to fix it: If you have a newer confirmation email, press the link in that one. Otherwise press See the latest posts, subscribe again and use the new email.
Emails about new blog posts
Once you are subscribed, the blog sends one email for each new post and nothing else. These cards cover an email that did not come, or one that came when you did not expect it.
A new post is out but no email came
- Where you see it: Your inbox. The post is on the blog, but no email about it arrived.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: You confirmed after the post was published, or the post is in a different language from your subscription. The blog can also publish a post without an email. An older post that was changed is never emailed again. A long list of readers also takes a while to reach.
- How to fix it:
- Check spam, and add the sender to your contacts.
- If you are not sure you confirmed, subscribe again. If you are already subscribed, nothing changes.
- Read the post on the blog. If you missed several posts in your language, tell support your address and the titles.
You only get posts in one language
- Where you see it: Your inbox. Every email is about a post in the same language.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: A subscription keeps the language of the page you subscribed on. One address follows one language, and subscribing again with the same address does not change it.
- How to fix it: Unsubscribe first. Then subscribe again from a post written in the language you want, or from the blog's home page for English.
An email arrives after you unsubscribed
- Where you see it: Your inbox, shortly after the blog told you "You are unsubscribed".
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The email had already left when you pressed Unsubscribe. Or a second address of yours is subscribed too.
- How to fix it: Check which address the email was sent to, and press Unsubscribe in that email. If the address you removed still receives posts, forward one of them to support.
Unsubscribing from blog emails
Every blog email carries your own unsubscribe link. It opens a blog page with one Unsubscribe button, and you are removed when you press that button.
"This link has expired" after pressing Unsubscribe
- Where you see it: The blog page that follows the Unsubscribe button. Under the title it says "The address is not on the list, or the link is an old one."
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The email is older than your latest subscription, so its link was replaced. Or the address is no longer on the list at all.
- How to fix it: Use the Unsubscribe link in the most recent blog email. If the address is off the list, no more emails come anyway. If they continue, send support the address and one of the emails.
You opened the unsubscribe page but emails keep coming
- Where you see it: Your inbox, after you opened the page titled "Unsubscribe".
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Opening the page changes nothing. It says "Press the button and no more emails about new posts will be sent to this address." You are removed only when you press the button.
- How to fix it: Open the link again, press Unsubscribe and wait for the page titled "You are unsubscribed".
The unsubscribe link opens "Page not found"
- Where you see it: A blog page that says "There is no page at this address. It may have moved, or the link may be mistyped."
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The link was cut or changed on the way, for example when it was copied by hand or broken across two lines.
- How to fix it: Press the link inside the email itself instead of copying it. On an email about a new post you can also use your mailbox app's own unsubscribe option, if it shows one. You are still subscribed until one of them works.
Blog emails are not in your account's email settings
- Where you see it: The email settings of your Onflow Ads account, which have no entry for the blog.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The blog's list is separate from your account's emails. A blog reader may have no account at all.
- How to fix it: Use the Unsubscribe link in a blog email. Your account's email settings do not start or stop blog emails, and unsubscribing from the blog does not change your account's emails.
Sending a comment on a blog post
These problems appear in the Leave a comment form under a post. Unless a card says otherwise, the message shows beside Post comment and your text stays in the box.
There is no comment section under a post
- Where you see it: The end of a post. There is no Comments heading, no form and no count.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Comments are switched off, either for the whole blog or for that one post.
- How to fix it: There is nothing to fix on your side. To reach the team, press Contact in the blog's footer or open onflowads.com/support.
The Post comment button stays grey
- Where you see it: The Leave a comment form. Post comment cannot be pressed.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The page has not finished loading, or part of it was blocked in your browser. If scripts are off, the page also says "Scripts are off in this browser, so a comment cannot be sent."
- How to fix it: Reload the page. If the button is still grey, turn scripts on, pause your content blocker for the blog, or open the post in another browser. Nothing was sent.
"Enter your name."
- Where you see it: Beside Post comment. The cursor moves to Name.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The Name field is empty, or holds only spaces or characters that cannot be seen.
- How to fix it: Type the name you want shown with your comment and press Post comment. Keep it short, because a very long name is cut.
"Write a comment first."
- Where you see it: Beside Post comment. The cursor moves to Comment.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The Comment field is empty, or holds only spaces and line breaks.
- How to fix it: Write your comment in the Comment field and press Post comment again. Nothing was sent by the first press.
"That comment is too long. Shorten it and send it again."
- Where you see it: Beside Post comment, after sending a very long comment.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The comment is longer than the form accepts. The box normally stops you before that point, so this appears mainly after pasting a long text.
- How to fix it: Shorten the text, or split it into two comments. A comment that is too long is refused whole, never cut, so nothing was kept.
"This comment could not be sent. Reload the page and try again."
- Where you see it: Beside Post comment, after pressing the button.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The page you are on is stale or did not load completely, so the comment could not be matched to its post.
- How to fix it:
- Copy the text of your comment.
- Reload the page.
- Paste the text, fill in Name and Email address and press Post comment.
"Comments are closed on this post."
- Where you see it: Beside Post comment, after pressing the button.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Comments were switched off, or the post was taken down, after your page loaded.
- How to fix it: Nothing can be sent on this post now, and your comment was not kept. Copy your text if it matters to you. To reach the team, press Contact in the blog's footer.
"Comments are not available right now. Please try again later."
- Where you see it: Beside Post comment, after pressing the button.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The blog cannot take a comment at this moment. The fault is on the blog's side, not on your device.
- How to fix it: Try again later. The comment was not kept, but your text stays in the box while the page is open. Copy it if you plan to leave.
"Comments cannot be taken at the moment. Please try again later."
- Where you see it: Beside Post comment, after pressing the button.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The blog is not taking new comments for now.
- How to fix it: Try again later. The blog gives no time for this, so it can last a while. The comment was not kept, so copy your text before you close the page.
"Too many attempts. Please try again in an hour."
- Where you see it: Beside Post comment, after pressing the button.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Too many attempts to send a comment were made in a short time, so this one was not taken.
- How to fix it: Wait as the message says, then send the comment once. This comment was not kept. Comments you sent earlier were.
"Please reload the page and try again."
- Where you see it: Beside Post comment, after pressing the button.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The page you have open is out of date. The comment form changed after you loaded it.
- How to fix it:
- Copy the text of your comment, because it was not kept.
- Reload the page.
- Paste the text, fill in the form and press Post comment.
Your comment was accepted but never appears
- Where you see it: Under the post. You saw the green line "Thank you. Your comment will appear here once it has been approved.", and the comment is still not there.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The blog's team reads every comment before it is shown. Yours is still waiting, or it was not approved. No email tells you the outcome.
- How to fix it: Come back later. People do the reading, and the blog promises no time. Do not send the same text again. Sending it twice does not speed anything up.
The security check on the comment form
When the blog runs a security check, it shows in a row above Post comment the first time you click into the form. It usually passes by itself and reads "Browser verified. Protected by Onflow Security."
"Checking your browser. Onflow Security is confirming you are a real person."
- Where you see it: The row above Post comment. If you press the button meanwhile, the line beside it reads "Sending" and may then read "One moment: the security check is running."
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The check started when you first clicked into or typed in the form, and it has not finished.
- How to fix it: Wait a few seconds. When the row reads "Browser verified. Protected by Onflow Security.", press Post comment if your comment has not gone already.
"Confirm you are human: tick the box below."
- Where you see it: The row above Post comment, with a box to tick under the message.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The check could not finish by itself this time and needs one action from you.
- How to fix it: Tick the box that appears in the row, wait for "Browser verified. Protected by Onflow Security.", then press Post comment.
"Please complete the security check and try again."
- Where you see it: Beside Post comment. You may see "The security check didn't pass. Please try again." instead.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Your comment was sent before the security check was passed.
- How to fix it: Look at the row above the button. Wait for the check to finish, tick its box, or press Try again if it shows an error. Then press Post comment. Your text is still in the box.
"The security check did not load. Check your connection. If you use a content blocker, pause it for this page."
- Where you see it: The row above Post comment, with a Try again button.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Your browser could not load the check. The usual causes are no connection, a content blocker, or a network that filters what pages can load.
- How to fix it: Check your connection, pause your content blocker for this page and press Try again. Nothing was sent.
"The security check could not start. Your device clock looks wrong. Set the date and time to automatic."
- Where you see it: The row above Post comment, with a Try again button.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The date or time on your device is far from the real one.
- How to fix it: In your device's settings, set the date and time to automatic. Then press Try again. If the message comes back, copy your text, reload the page and send the comment again.
"This browser cannot run the security check. Update your browser, or open this page in another one."
- Where you see it: The row above Post comment, when you click into the comment form.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Your browser is too old, or too unusual, for the check to run in it.
- How to fix it: Update your browser, or open the post in another one and write the comment there. Copy your text first, because it does not move with you.
"The security check did not pass. Try again. If it keeps happening, switch networks or turn off your VPN."
- Where you see it: The row above Post comment, with a Try again button.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: The check did not pass on this attempt. Nothing was sent.
- How to fix it: Press Try again. If it repeats, change network, for example mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, or turn off your VPN. Then try again.
"The security check is unavailable. This is a problem on our side and we have been told. Please try again shortly."
- Where you see it: The row above Post comment, when you click into the comment form.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: A fault on the blog's side. The team is told about it automatically.
- How to fix it: Try again later. Nothing on your device needs changing and nothing was sent. Copy your text if you plan to close the page.
Comments after they are public
These cards cover comments that are already shown under a post, yours or other readers'. None of them shows a message, so each heading describes what you see.
Your reply was placed under a different comment
- Where you see it: The Comments list under a post, once your reply is approved.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Replies sit one level deep. A reply to a reply is placed under the first comment of that thread. If the comment you answered is not shown, your reply appears as a comment of its own.
- How to fix it: There is nothing to fix, and your reply was kept. Next time, name the person you are answering in your text.
Your link or formatting came out as plain text
- Where you see it: Your comment in the Comments list under a post.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: A comment is plain text only. A web address you type stays as letters and is never a link. Bold, lists and pictures are not kept. Line breaks are.
- How to fix it: There is nothing to fix. Write the address out in full, so that other readers can copy it.
You want to change or remove your comment
- Where you see it: Your comment under a post. It has no edit or delete button.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Readers cannot change a comment after sending it. Only the blog's team can remove one.
- How to fix it: Open onflowads.com/support and ask for the comment to be removed. Send the post's address, the name on the comment, its date and its first words. Deleting your Onflow Ads account also removes the comments written with that account's email address.
All the comments on a post have disappeared
- Where you see it: A post that used to have a Comments section and now has none.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Comments were switched off for the blog or for that post. The whole section goes, including comments that were already shown.
- How to fix it: There is nothing to do. The comments are kept and come back if comments are switched on again. Only a post that is deleted for good takes its comments with it.
Early comments are missing on a very long thread
- Where you see it: A post with a very large number of comments. The oldest ones are not listed.
- Plans affected: Every plan, and readers without an account.
- Why it happens: Once a post has very many comments, its page shows only the most recent ones. The count in the heading still counts all of them.
- How to fix it: There is nothing to fix, and nothing was deleted. Your own comment is still counted even when it is no longer listed.
