Getting new blog posts by email
The Onflow Ads blog can send you one email each time a new post is published. This page covers subscribing, confirming your address, what arrives, and how to stop.
Anyone can subscribe, with or without an Onflow Ads account. Having an account does not subscribe you, and no plan changes what you receive.
How subscribing to new blog posts works
Subscribing takes two steps: you type your email address on the blog, then you press the link in a confirmation email. After that you get one email per new post and nothing else.
Diagram Nothing is sent after the confirmation email unless you press its link, and every blog email carries your way out.
Where to find the subscribe box on the blog
The subscribe box sits at the foot of the blog's home list, of every section, topic and author page, and of the page at the feed's address. It also follows every post.
The box is there only when the blog has it switched on. If you cannot see it, see There is no subscribe box on the blog below.
How to subscribe to new blog posts by email
You need an email address you can open now, because the second step happens in your inbox.
- Open the blog and scroll to the box titled Get new posts by email.
- Type your address in the field. It shows
[email protected]as an example until you type. - Press Subscribe. The line under the field reads "Sending", then turns green: "Almost done. Check your inbox and press the link in the email we just sent." The field empties.
- Open the email from Onflow Ads with the subject "Confirm your subscription to the Onflow Ads Blog".
- Press Confirm my subscription in that email. The blog opens on the page "You are subscribed", with a See the latest posts button.
Signed out — the subscribe box after pressing Subscribe This is the box right after the third step. 1 The field for your address. It is empty again because the request went through, so it shows its grey example. 2 The Subscribe button. 3 The line that tells you to open your inbox. Every answer about subscribing appears on this line, so read it before you press again.
The box's title, the sentence under it and the word on the button are the blog's own text. They may be worded differently when you visit; the steps stay the same. The subject of the confirmation email ends with the blog's name.
Rules of the confirmation email
The confirmation email makes sure the address is yours. These rules apply to it:
- Nothing more is sent unless you press the link. The email says so itself: "If you did not ask for this, ignore this message and nothing more will be sent."
- A new request replaces the older link. If you subscribe again before confirming, a new email is sent and the link in the older one stops working. Use the newest email.
- Pressing the current link twice is harmless. You see "You are subscribed" again, and you are subscribed once.
- The link stops working when it is replaced. That happens when a newer confirmation email is sent, or when the address has been unsubscribed or removed.
- An address that is already confirmed stays subscribed. Typing it into the box again changes nothing.
An older link opens the page below instead of "You are subscribed".
Signed out — an old confirmation link: "This link has expired" The page an older confirmation link opens. 1 The title; the sentence under it reads "The confirmation link is an old one. Subscribe again to get a new one." 2 See the latest posts takes you to the blog, where you can subscribe again for a new link.
What the new-post emails contain and when they arrive
Each new post brings one email from Onflow Ads. Its subject is the post's title. Inside are the title, the post's summary, the cover picture when the post has one, and a Read the post button.
Who receives a given post:
- Readers who had confirmed their address before the post was published. If you subscribe afterwards, your first email is the next post.
- Readers whose subscription is in the post's language (see the next section).
A post is emailed at most once. A change to a post that is already public sends nothing. The blog can also publish a post without an email.
The email goes out shortly after the post is published. When the list of readers is long, the emails go out over a while, so yours may arrive later than someone else's. No arrival time is promised.
One email address follows one language
A subscription keeps the language of the page it was made on. Subscribe from the home list or any other list page and it is English. Subscribe from the box under a post and it is that post's language.
You then receive only the posts written in that language. While you are subscribed, typing the same address into the box again does not change it. To switch:
- Unsubscribe, as described in the next section.
- Open a post written in the language you want, or the home page for English.
- Subscribe from the box on that page and confirm the new email.
How to unsubscribe from new-post emails
Every blog email carries your own unsubscribe link, so you never need to sign in or write to anyone.
- Open any email from the blog. A new-post email and the confirmation email both work.
- Press unsubscribe in the small print of the message, or Unsubscribe in the row of links at the bottom. A blog page titled Unsubscribe opens. It reads "Press the button and no more emails about new posts will be sent to this address."
- Press the Unsubscribe button on that page. The page "You are unsubscribed" opens: "No more emails about new posts will be sent to this address."
Opening the unsubscribe page changes nothing by itself. You are unsubscribed only after you press the Unsubscribe button and see "You are unsubscribed".
There is also a one-step way. Many mailbox apps show their own unsubscribe control beside the sender's name. On a new-post email from the blog, that control takes your address off the list at once.
No email is sent to confirm that you unsubscribed; the page is your confirmation.
Subscribing again after you unsubscribed
You can come back at any time. Use the subscribe box again with the same address. It starts over: a new confirmation email arrives, and you are subscribed once you press Confirm my subscription.
The unsubscribe links in emails you received before then stop working. Use the link in an email that arrived after you came back.
Blog emails and your account's email settings
The blog's list is separate from your Onflow Ads account, because a blog reader may have no account at all. Three things follow:
- Creating an account does not subscribe you to the blog.
- The email settings of your account do not switch blog emails on or off. See Your account page and settings for what those settings cover.
- Unsubscribing from the blog does not change any email your account sends you.
A blog email's last row of links carries Unsubscribe, where an account email links to your account's email settings.
What the blog keeps about a subscriber
The blog keeps what it needs to send you posts: your email address, the language of your subscription, the kind of page you subscribed from, when you subscribed and confirmed, and whether you are subscribed now.
After you unsubscribe, the address stays on record as unsubscribed, so that it is not emailed. If an Onflow Ads account with the same email address is deleted, the subscription is deleted with it.
How Onflow Ads looks after personal data in general is in the Privacy Policy.
If something goes wrong
These are the problems readers meet most often. Every other message about blog emails is on Troubleshooting blog emails and comments.
"Enter a valid email address."
-
Where you see it:
In red under the field of the subscribe box, after you press Subscribe.
-
Plans affected:
Every plan, and readers without an account.
-
Why it happens:
The address is incomplete, has a space in it, or is not shaped like an email address.
-
How to fix it:
Retype the address in full, without spaces, and press Subscribe again. Nothing was sent or saved by the failed attempt.
"Too many attempts. Please wait a minute and try again."
-
Where you see it:
Under the field of the subscribe box, after you press Subscribe.
-
Plans affected:
Every plan, and readers without an account.
-
Why it happens:
Subscribe was pressed too often in a short time. This request was not handled; your earlier ones were.
-
How to fix it:
- Stop pressing Subscribe.
- Look for the confirmation email that was already sent, in your spam and promotions folders too, and press its link.
- If there is no email, wait, then press Subscribe once. If the message shows again, try again later.
"Almost done. Check your inbox and press the link in the email we just sent." but no email arrives
-
Where you see it:
The green line shows under the subscribe field, but no confirmation email reaches your inbox.
-
Plans affected:
Every plan, and readers without an account.
-
Why it happens:
The email is in a spam, junk or promotions folder, the address was mistyped, or delivery is slow. If you confirmed this address earlier, you are still subscribed and there is nothing to confirm.
-
How to fix it:
- Search your mailbox for "Confirm your subscription" and check the spam and promotions folders.
- If you confirmed this address before, do nothing: you stay subscribed.
- Otherwise subscribe again, typing the address carefully.
- Press the link in the newest email only.
"This link has expired" after pressing Confirm my subscription
-
Where you see it:
On the blog page that opens from the confirmation email, with the sentence "The confirmation link is an old one. Subscribe again to get a new one."
-
Plans affected:
Every plan, and readers without an account.
-
Why it happens:
A newer confirmation email replaced this link, the link lost characters when it was copied, you pressed unsubscribe in the same email first, or the address was removed. Your address was not confirmed by this press.
-
How to fix it:
If you have a newer confirmation email, press the link in that one. If not, press See the latest posts, subscribe again from the box, and use the link in the new email.
A new post is out but no email came
-
Where you see it:
A post is on the blog, and no email about it is in your inbox.
-
Plans affected:
Every plan, and readers without an account.
-
Why it happens:
You confirmed after the post was published, or the post is in a different language from your subscription. The blog may have published it without an email, or it is an older post that was changed. Your address may never have been confirmed. The email may also be in your spam folder, or still on its way.
-
How to fix it:
- Read the post on the blog. Nothing is lost.
- Check your spam folder and add the sender to your contacts.
- If you are not sure you ever pressed Confirm my subscription, subscribe again. If you are already subscribed, nothing changes; if not, a new confirmation email arrives.
- If several posts in your language were missed after you confirmed, open
https://onflowads.com/supportand send the address you subscribed with and the titles of the posts.
You opened the unsubscribe page but emails keep coming
-
Where you see it:
New-post emails still arrive after you followed an unsubscribe link.
-
Plans affected:
Every plan, and readers without an account.
-
Why it happens:
The page titled Unsubscribe was opened but its button was not pressed. Opening the page alone changes nothing.
-
How to fix it:
Open the link again, press the Unsubscribe button and wait for "You are unsubscribed". If an email still arrives, check which address it was sent to: a second address of yours may be subscribed.
"This link has expired" after pressing Unsubscribe
-
Where you see it:
On the blog page, after you press the Unsubscribe button, with the sentence "The address is not on the list, or the link is an old one."
-
Plans affected:
Every plan, and readers without an account.
-
Why it happens:
The link comes from an email sent before you last subscribed again, or the address is no longer on the list. Nothing changed. If the address is not on the list, no more emails come anyway.
-
How to fix it:
Use the Unsubscribe link in the most recent blog email. If emails continue and no link works, open
https://onflowads.com/supportand send the address and one of the emails.
There is no subscribe box on the blog
-
Where you see it:
At the foot of the blog's lists and after a post, where the box titled Get new posts by email would be.
-
Plans affected:
Every plan, and readers without an account.
-
Why it happens:
The blog has switched the box off. Readers who are already subscribed stay subscribed. If the box is there but nothing happens when you press Subscribe, scripts are off in your browser, and the box says so: "Scripts are off in this browser, so the form cannot be sent. The RSS feed carries every new post."
-
How to fix it:
Follow the blog in a feed reader instead, using
https://blogs.onflowads.com/rss.xml, and look for the box again later. Following the blog in a feed reader has the steps. If scripts are off, switch them on for the blog and reload.
